Thanksgiving Time? Cocktail Time.

Two persons holding cocktails

Poor Thanksgiving. It’s been run over from behind by Christmas already. The radio stations were playing Christmas music shortly after Halloween, and Black Friday has spilled over into Thanksgiving day itself.

But it’s still a day to get together with family and enjoy their company. Whether you’re looking for a drink to unwind with or you need a little liquid courage to make it through the afternoon, we’ve got you covered.

Maple Old Fashioned

This simple twist on a classic is Fall in a glass.

  • 2 ounces rye whiskey or bourbon
  • 1 teaspoon pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • Dash of Angostura bitters
  • Orange peel (for garnish)

Stir whiskey, syrup, water, and bitters until syrup is dissolved in an Old Fashioned glass. Add an ice cube and garnish with orange peel.

This recipe serves 4, so there’s plenty to share with family. (or not)

  • 1 cup Maker’s 46 bourbon
  • 2/3 cup Noilly Prat Rouge vermouth
  • 4 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 4 orange twists
  • 4 fresh cherries

Combine bourbon, vermouth, and bitters in a mixing glass, then pour into 4 ice-filled rocks glasses. Garnish each with a cherry and a twist.

Hennessy Apple

I like using spiced cider with this.

  • 1.5 parts Hennessy V.S
  • 3.5 parts of apple juice (unfiltered)

Pour a jigger of cognac into a highball glass. Fill to the top with ice. Top with the apple cider. Garnish with an apple slice.

Wherever you’re celebrating the holiday, raise a toast to give thanks!
